What’s Up Next at DCPS - October 23, 2026

Message from Administration

Dear DCPS Families,

Here are the upcoming school updates and important dates to keep on your radar:

  • Monday, October 26: P.A. Day (Students do not attend school).
  • Wednesday, October 28: School Photo Day (Edge Imaging will be on-site to photograph all students).

Halloween Guidelines

Halloween is approaching, and students may wear costumes to school on Friday, October 30. Alternatively, students may wear orange and black or fall colours. There is no expectation for students to dress differently on October 30.

If your child plans to wear a costume, please keep the following rules in mind:

  • Costumes should be respectful of others. Do not wear symbols or objects representing a person's race, culture, ethnicity, or religious beliefs as a costume, and avoid costumes that caricature social identities through stereotyping.
  • No Halloween masks are to be worn.
  • No replica weapons of any kind are permitted.
  • Students should only use single-use makeup (sharing of makeup is strictly prohibited).

Please do not send treats to school for your child to share with others in their class or school.

Weekend Parking Lot Closure Notice

Please note that the lines in our school parking lot are being repainted over the upcoming weekend. To complete the work safely and properly, parents and community members are asked not to park in the school parking lot throughout the weekend. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping the parking lot clear during this time!

Classroom Text Selection Form

We are excited to partner with Another Story Bookshop to bring in some new and exciting texts to our classrooms that are in line with our board's new Multi-Year Strategic Plan.

Please preview this list of texts here. From this list, if there are any texts you would like to suggest for us to purchase for your child's classroom, please indicate so. We will then aim to purchase these texts for your child's classroom library through our school budget. The direct link to these texts can also be found here:

https://anotherstoryedu.ca/lists/LyGtWjkIFZFE

We are also planning to host an in-person session for families/students to select books for their classroom library on November 2nd from 4:30-5:30 pm in our gym. Here, you will be able to browse hundreds of titles that we can add to our classroom libraries using our school budget. We will then be hosting our School Council meeting from 5:30-6:30 pm in the library.

If you are interested in suggesting texts, please fill out this Google Form by October 29th, 2026.

Thank you so much for your partnership!

Week 2: App Age Limits Aren't Random

Most apps have age minimums based on privacy laws and built-in features like messaging or live chat, and children using platforms designed for older users may be exposed to increased risk. Take a moment to review one app your child uses and confirm the account age is accurate and reflects their real age. Click here to read more: App Age Limits Aren’t Random

School Mental Health Ontario

As part of our continued commitment to supporting the well-being of our students and families, we encourage parents and caregivers to explore the wealth of evidence-based tools available through School Mental Health Ontario (SMHO). Their dedicated parent and caregiver hub, "By Your Side," offers practical, everyday resources designed to support student mental health and overall family well-being. To support our diverse school community, many of these high-quality resources are available in multiple languages. The website provides free webinar series, informative blog posts, and expert guidance on highly relevant topics, including stress and anxiety management, navigating digital technology, and promoting positive mental health at home. We invite you to visit the School Mental Health Ontario Parents and Caregivers Page to access these valuable materials and learn more about how we can work together to nurture our children's emotional health.
