Good afternoon DCPS Families!
Congratulations and a big thank you to our amazing school community! Unfortunately, our original date for our school Terry Fox Run/Walk had to be cancelled due to the rain, but we had a gorgeous fall day on Monday for the event. Together, we raised $956.00 for cancer research through donations to the Terry Fox Foundation. This is more money than was raised in the past two years. Thank you to everyone for your support!
Many of our students created artwork to submit to the Markham Fair this year. We are proud to share that DCPS finished 12th overall in the Top School Competition. Please see the letter sent by the Markham Fair to us at the end of this newsletter.
Our Meet the Teacher night and BBQ is taking place on Thursday, October 9, from 4:00-7:00 pm. If you would like to order food, please ensure that you have placed your order through SchooCash Online before 11:59pm on Tuesday, October 7.
Sunday, October 5 is World Teacher’s Day. It is held annually to celebrate teachers around the globe. Here at DCPS, we are fortunate to have very passionate and dedicated teachers and support staff. They care deeply for our students, helping to ignite curiosity and a love for learning. They inspire confidence through participation in both classroom and co-curricular activities and work hard every day to make a difference in the lives of our students. We are truly grateful for all that our teaching and support staff do here at DCPS.
Families, if we can support you in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value our parents/guardians as partners in education.

Bicycles
We are happy to see so many of our students riding their bikes to school! This is a reminder that when you are on school property (including sidewalks/walkways), you must dismount and walk your e-bike/ e-scooter/bike/skateboard. Also, please remind your children that the bicycles should not be touched during the school day, by students who own them or any other students.
School Assistants Wanted
We are looking for additional School Assistants to support the supervision of students during the lunch hour (12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.). This is a paid position and requires a Vulnerable Sector Screening to be obtained from the York Regional Police.
The role of School Assistants is to provide supervisory support to ensure the safety and well-being of students during peak or critical periods of the school day, such as lunch time and recess.
As a School Assistant, your responsibilities may include:
- Yard duty supervision
- Supervision of lunch hour activities
- Additional tasks assigned by the school administrator
If you are interested, please email the school at donald.cousens.ps@yrdsb.ca.
Terry Fox Run/Walk
Our Kindergarten students were ready to begin their Terry Fox Run with the support of the Grade 7 students in Ms. Bouroukis’ class. The Grade 7 students made signs to encourage all of our students during the Terry Fox Run/Walk. The grade 7 students also created posters that were displayed around the school and wrote announcements leading up to the event. Such great leaders!

Walking Club
Walking Club is off to a great start! With more than 35 members from grades 4 to 8 and teachers joining the fun too, we are enjoying the beautiful fall weather and connecting with new friends. What a great way to stay active and have fun!

Cross country athletes have been training hard before school and at lunch in preparation for our upcoming area meet. More than 60 athletes will be representing our school next Friday, October 10, at Milliken Mills Park. Go Dragons!!
